Ravda Lágádus in collaboration with the Várdobáiki Sami center has developed the Márkku sánit mobile app in 2022.Márkku sánit mobile app is based on the book Márkku sánit (Asbjørg Skåden, Skániid girjie, 2010).Márkku sánit is a term list containing words and expressions from oral speech in the Mark Sami area (Norwegian side of the Torne Sami area).
Oral speech varies.
This is reflected in the glossary.
The areas distinctive Sami language features have been retained, including middle consonants.
Old Norwegian field words have been preserved in translation.
Synonyms complement these words.Asbjørg Skåden started in 1987 by collecting Mark Sami words and expressions.
In 1999, the Sámi Parliament provided funding for a fundraising effort under the auspices of Skådens forlag Skániid girjie.
The collection work was led by Asbjørg Skåden and a total of 117 informants contributed to the work.
The Nordic Sami Institutes text bank was also used.
The gender distribution among the informants was approximately 50-50.
All informants had Sami as their mother tongue.
Most informants were fromSkánik/Scania and Evenášši/Evenes.
There were also informants from Bálák/Ballangen,Rivttak/Gratangen, Hársttak/Harstad, Loabák/Lavangen, Leaŋgáviika/Lenvik,Áhkánjárga/Narvik, Siellak/Salangen and Dielddanuorri/Tjeldsund.
The oldest informant was born in 1889, the youngest in 1942.
A working group consisting of people from the area with Sami as their mother tongue reviewed the material, topic by topic.
As the group worked, new words kept appearing.In 2001, Skániid girjie received the Sami Parliaments language motivation award for this term work and for the publishers work with Sami place names.In 2020, Várdobáiki AS bought rights from the publisher Skániid girjie to create and distribute a mobile dictionary app based on the book Márkku sánit.The Márkku sánit mobile app has been developed by Ravda Lágádus in collaboration with Várdobáiki with the support of the Sámi Parliament.Markku sanit vardobaiki Sami glossary
